Belgium still exists

It's been a while that I've been here. In the meantime I got a year older and have more problems with some of my joints, including my spine. What's so weird about practicing rock'n'roll on saturday noon? My knee was not in the mood... it bent unexpectedly the other way than the usual.

Belgium has got the new Prime Minister, who managed to create the governement in 2 (two!) days. And it still goes fine. It's not like with Guy any more, the secure political and economical situation, but... het gaat.

The weather is finally so much better!!!! It's still very cold, but the sun has been shining since three days. Wonderfull!!!!!! However the winter this year is longer and few degrees colder than any other winter during the last 20 years. Yes, of course it's the global warming. What else?! George Clooney. Eh... Nescafé!

We've just had a power failure for the whole 1,5h!! Terrible. All the neighbours came out on the street and discussed the fatal situation. After a long while nobody found any solution so we went home. And the power came back. I have gas. I have no problem.

One surprised Smurf

This Belgian Smurf is now helping Unicef to help children. However he's not happy about the weather. Lucky for him he doesn't have to sleep in a mushroomhouse.
Few months ago The Smurfs celebrated their 50th birthday and there was a big event in Ghent (Belgium). One could buy such a white/blank Smurf, decorate it and admit for a competition. After a month after launching them in Belgium and in the Netherlands, 29milion Smurfs were sold!! All the money was collected in favour of Unicef. Nice. This one lives now with us.
I never knew that The Smurfs are belgian. They were drawn by a nice man, cartoonist and illustrator Peyo. Do you know how big they are?

13 days of summer

It was unusual. The beginning of may took me compltely by surprise. 13 days with the average temperature of 25-29°C and the nights were also very warm. UNUSUAL. I'm hestitating to say it but I'll say it: we are experiencing the global warming... or is it one big swindle?!

Soar things

There will be few beautiful days here. Nice. I'll go skating... the best place to do that is in Dendermonde along the Schelde - very good asfalt surface there!

I've been skating today also, hoping that the sun and the blue sky will cheer me up... After 10km and more then 2h skating I've got soar back and legs, as well as my soul still is.

Ps.: And the asfalt on the Leirekensroute is AWFUL!

Didn't last long

What a day Yesterday!!!! It started so wonderfull sunny but it didn't last long. The rest of the day was horribly hurricainy-rainy!!!!!!!! All furniture on my terras are upside down and moved meters away. And it was whistling all evening from under the doors inside!

That's Belgium. That's how I know it :)

What are friends?

This morning is beautiful. I start finding it odd. I've been here too long.

How do we make friends? ... how do we keep friends? These are the neveranswered questions of an assimilating stranger. There are people that you meet, that seem not to notice you, despite the fact that you talk to them, that you ask them questions and verbally worry about them and their lives.
What does it mean then when someone, a practical stranger, actaully enters your life and seems concerned about you and interested in your being...? How does it work? Why do you trust? Why is it easier to talk about everything?

The big ball of light has just come out from behind the dark, heavy curtains and shins stright into my mind, through the left ear. It warms my mind up...

life goes on

I don't write about the belgian politics any more, because it's kind of solving itself.

I didn't write about the Sinterklaas (6th december - presents!!) because I didn't get any presents ;), even no chocolate Sinterklaas, which is a tradition here.

I didn't write about Christmas because, except for my big lovely christmas tree, there was no real Christmas this year for me. No traditional cuisine on Christmas Eve, no presents under the christmas tree. That's how it goes here. Calm but... empty.
